Good morning. Last night we drove from North Karelia of Finland to the south of Finland for a white-tailed deer hunt. The morning started with a briefing whereby the hunting chief gave instructions on what kind of game we can hunt today. Now we are at the first posting of this morning. When we arrived at our post, we saw one stag leaving the forest. The dogs were not released yet, so we didn’t have permission to shoot it. The weather feels right, the temperature is close to zero, and the wind is pretty hard, so deers won’t notice people posting so quickly. Everything seems and feels good. The great vibe as this is my first time to participate in deer hunting with dachshunds. Since this is a local style hunt of deers with dachshunds, I chose my gun as the Blaser R8 rifle calibre 308. I use Lapuan Natural ammo, and Leica Magnus 1.5-10×50 is binocular with which I can shoot a little longer distance. Let’s see what the day brings. I just heard over the radio that the first dog already has three deers running in front of it. Exciting situation. The dog was coming straight towards to us, and I thought it would bring a deer directly to us in silver plate, but the deer didn’t show itself, and neither I saw where it went. In Kalevi’s team, Tuomo has a stag down, and I shot another stag too, but it continued to run and not sure if I hit it. Jani shot, and the doe is down. Here’s my first stag in my life. This situation was more exciting than for a long time in the bear hunt. Very very nice feeling. Now, the first run is over. That first stag that I shot, we took a dog to trace it, and it was found after three hundred meters. Let’s go and see what kind of stag it is, as it seemed like a big stag. We just had a lunch break and moved on to another run and new posts. We switched places with Tuomo who is now behind the camera as he got two stags in the first run which I was filming. Dogs have been released, and now we are waiting to see what they will find. Now, what happened Heikki? We were posting for a moment, and I noticed that a little stag approaches my post. The stag was really calm and then stopped before the open space, and I got a perfect place to shoot. It went down immediately as it was such an excellent place to shoot. When I shot, behind it was a bigger one that went to the next post whereby Kai took a shot and there it is now. It was a great shot. Which kind of ammunition you were using? I used Lapua Naturalis 308 ammo. It was a perfect shot and dropped immediately. Congratulations. Thank you. Could you tell us what happened? I was posting here when I heard that Heikki shot next to me. Then, I was looking at what was going on and noticed a large stag in the woods that was running towards my post. It came with full speed, but “Norwegian” sharpshooter behind the rifle was so good again that it hit to fast running stag, but I hit a bit behind. So, I took another shot, and I think it was my cousin Heikki who shot the last bullet. This is a really fantastic deer, stag, which is the first one in my life. Which kind of ammo you were using? I had 9.3×62 and as ammo the traditional Lapuan Naturalis, which never let you down. Fine shot. Congratulations. This is a very nice stag. Thanks. Congratulations Tuomo is just standing there. Come and help us and not just record us! Hurry up! Thank you on behalf of the organising club. The hunt was carried out safely. Especially, thanks to the dog men. And there was no wounded game so thank you each and everyone at posts, you shot well. Without any longer talks, let’s toast to the game.
