Hello I am Keith McDonald, nick name Killer
Keith and hunting my whole life, 45-50 years, deer hunting, bear hunting, moose hunting,
turkey hunting, you name it, I have hunted it. I am a licensed Maine guide. I’ve hunted
in Alaska. I’ve hunted in Canada. I’ve hunted in Newfoundland. I’ve been everywhere, everywhere
I’ve hunted. You, of course, have to pass a law. In Main, when you’re hunting with a
firearm, in some cases, you have to wear blaze orange, hunter orange. And, like, for deer
hunting. If you’re deer hunting with a firearm, you have to wear 2 articles of orange, a vest
and a hat. Moose hunting, you have to wear 1. Bird hunting, you don’t have to wear any,
unless the deer season’s on. If you’re bird hunting in deer season with a firearm, you
have to obey the laws as if you were deer hunting. So you have to wear blaze orange.
Now, a blaze orange hat has to be solid orange. Your vest, now, they passed a law a couple
years ago. Your vest could be the, uh. You may have seen the orange vest with black camouflage
kinda mixed in. And you can use, that is legal now. You can use the camouflage orange vest.
Of course, the idea is safety. So you can see that orange, it shows up so good and bright.
You can tell it’s a man, not a deer. Clothing isn’t as critical as some of the hunting.
‘Cause, uh, moose hunting, like I said, you’re calling the moose to you. You tend not to
hunt moose by sneaking down into the back corner of a swamp. And so, you do a lot of
riding around, and then calling from different locations. So you’re not needing to dress
quite as warm. You do have to have an article of orange on. Most people wear a hat, orange
hat. Now you’re covered, you can moose hunt. The season is earlier, if you’re in a rut,
you’re in September now. So it’s not all that cold, usually. You’re not gonna run into snow,
usually. The temperature’s gonna be in the 50s, maybe even the 60s. So you don’t have
to have heavy heavy gear. Great time to hunt. It’s a beautiful time to be out when the leaves
have changed and fallen. And it’s just a great time to be out.
