Okay, so as everyone will know by now the cub has been named. His name is Hamish. It was the result of a vote and apparently he got over 21 thousand votes for the name Hamish. He’s getting used to it, we use his name when we’re doing training feeds with him and his mum. He’s a very strong little bear. He’s actually developed a real bear shape which might sound strange but originally he was just like a little white blob and now he’s got that real bear shape with the kind of, rounded rear end and little pointy face. And he’s also developed some serious swimming skills. He initially was following mum into the water and now he takes off by himself and he’s quite happy. Like all of our polar bears he likes floating plastic objects. So we’ve found some black tubing that he’s very fond of. He’s got some boomer balls which were donated by one of our visitors, and we’ve got some buoys that one of our keepers got at a local quayside. And he basically enjoys anything that floats in water. And Victoria, as time goes by, is getting more relaxed as a mum. She’s doing absolutely fantastically with him. He can be a little bit of a pest, he sometimes does bite her and nips her and so on and she just tolerates everything. She’s just possibly one of the happiest animals I’ve ever seen. She loves being a mum.
