Hello! and welcome to PowerDrift this is the new Tata safari 2016 and though the DRL’s are an aftermarket acessory just like air scoop and the black pladding on the outside its identical to the Safari it replace’s Except this Badge! the real change lies in here the Varicor 400 engine… 400 is the amount of mountain climbing of torque the 2.2liter engine offers and to deliver the torque Tata has fitted it with a new 6 speed transmission When you get into a Safari! you just need climb into one…and i personally quiet like it. inside here everything is now black..Tata call’s it the Java black theme, this one get’s all the features from facelift Tata Safari Dicor VX which means it’s still as big as a 1bhk in Bandra and everytime you try to get your power window down, you end up opening the fuel lid accidently it gets a new music system from Hammond its a singel dim unit you don’t have the option for navigation or a reverse camera, something which can be useful when reversing a car this size it does get ultra sonic reverse sensors though which work like this. and as you get going and get into the turbo range, the rev’s start to climb in very quickly and you dont have to be a genius to know to know that you’re driving a much more fun change and much more powerful engine what’s more of a welcome change in new the safari however is the new self adjusting clutch it basically means your clutch will stay light and comfortable as it is on day onetroughout the life of the clutch this new engine now pumps out 156Bhp of power… and the other day i happened to take their safari offroad which is where i could explore that complete 400Nm of potential that the new engine has… it might not be a all round offroader,it’s a highly capable SUV the 4*4 system works like a charm how i just wish it came with off road tyres of Athleat all terrain tyres in the city how ever the turbo lag is very evident to the extent that can be annoying for some. everytime you get on to a speedbreaker and shift to the 1st geat, you’re almost waiting for 2sec for the revs to climb back the turbo range so that thecar can start moving, but once its in the turbo range the car start’s to pick up pace very quickly driving on the highway the Varico engine is quite enjoyable, the 6th gear is a welcome edition, it lets you drive at ease,in triple digits the engine dose’nt feel over strained, however you have to remember a suv ladder of the same build which mean’s its a straight line hero, corner’s is not something it really likes, when you get into a corner you quiet feel like this and then it’s a heavy car even with 4 disc breaks ABS and ABD, when you try to break hard you do feel that weight around driving wise the seat is quite up and large glass areas and thin air pillars which means that visibility is not at all problem and i dont have to tell you it’s a very spacious car, i’m very sure that the visuals complement that but the seats however they’re large and comfortable, they lack support,so while the safari might not tire you out on a long journey you don’t come out very fresh. but there’s something to do with the road presence of the safari specially with the added chrom from the Dicor its a design you associate with the Macho being Rugged, being solid and i thing it works in Tata’s favour to stick to this design. if you want a true blue SUV which is capable,Reliable, spacious and dosent cost a bomb, you are limited, it is either the Mahindra Scorpio or the Tata Safari the Tata Safari came to the indian market when there was nothing quiet like it it is the car we all looked at and said “yar Ek baar tho leni hai” and years later came in the Scorpio and started dominating the segment and does that till date perhaps it’s now time for tata to take back that position. on paper this is a more powerful car and maybe a tad bit more fun to drive too but then the scorpio comes in a dozen variant’s and this comes in only one we’ll have to wait and see how that fairs out to be, But PDarmy, you know the drill, type in down the coments and tell us what you think about it and share your thought’s, talk to us we love it, we’ll try and reply to you as soon as we can, and share the video with your SUV lover friend’s until next time Good bye, Take care.
