COMM: These may look like aliens from another world, but they are actually the tiny lifeforms
teeming in a single drop of pond water. The incredible closeups were captured by Peter Matulavich from Ohio, USA, using a technique
called high-definition microscopy. This brownish bloop for instance is intact a tiny flatworm. You can see its two primitive
eyes on the front of its body as it swims. Elsewhere, a cluster of nematodes, also a type of worm, wiggle rapidly together. Some of the organisms are familiar, like these green algae. While others may be more familiar to scientists, such as this starfish-like hydra. The drop is barely a couple of millimetres wide, but as this amazing footage shows, it
is simply a world within a world.
