one, two, three, four! Rev up your engines! It’s time for the Scotty Kilmer Channel if your car needs a new catalytic
converter then today’s your lucky day, because I’m going to show you how to put
a new catalytic converter on your car, now catalytic converters can go bad in many
ways, in this case the car started to overheat the temperature gauge started
to get higher and it wouldn’t go over 50 miles an hour, because the old one was
clogged up inside, but they can also break down internally, so that the pieces
break and you can hear it rattling when you’re driving, they need to be changed
then too, and they can just wear out inside when you check them with the temperature
gun, they’re supposed to be much hotter at one end and the other, because they’re
burning out the impurities and if they’re the same temperature on both
sides, then you’re just burnt out and you need a new one, now one thing you have to
realize is, often a catalytic converter goes bad because there’s a problem in
the vehicle that causes it to go bad, like an engine that burns oil, or an
engine that’s running too lean, which makes the cat burn too hot, you have to
fix those problems of course to fix it entirely, they’re easy to find in this
case, when you go under the car, here it has right, here nearly problem is these
bolts have a tendency of getting corroded, especially 20-year old ones
like this, so get some good penetrating oil like this, and spray the nuts and
bolts so they get nice and lubricated and it’s best to do it overnight so they
soak better, just spray them all over you want to get a nice and lubricated, then
get yourself a nice long extension bar with a socket, and a wrench that fits the
other side of mounting bolt, and start pulling like mad, and when you pull hard
enough, finally you can get it loose, then when all the nuts and bolts are out, with a
little wiggling, maybe a little swearing, you can get it off, and there’s
where you can save a little money, I’m using a walker cat, they work perfectly
fine, but they cost a lot less than OEM this direct fit bolt on unit was 128,
while the factory part is three hundred and seventy four dollars, and I know some
guys are going say, hey I can get him even cheaper, but those are Universal
cats and you have to weld them on, most guys
don’t have welding equipment, this baby just bolts right back on, then you wiggle
it in place and put the nuts and bolts in, then get them on nice and tight, you
don’t want them leaking any exhaust gas, so start her up, I feel all around with your bare hands,
there’s no leaks and it’s nice and quiet, so the next time your catalytic
converter goes bad why not replace it with a walker converter yourself, and remember if you
got any car questions this visit the Scotty Kilmer Channel and I’ll answer them as
soon as I’m done fixing this fire truck
