– From Careco TV, one of the longest
running outdoor programs on television today. Exploring the country and the
coast in search of adventure. From the mountains of
the great northwest to the shores of
the Atlantic Ocean, this is Americana Outdoors,
presented by Garmin. Welcome to Americana
Outdoors presented by Garmin. Well, this week, Wade Middleton invites Thompson
Centers’ brand manager, Danielle Sanville, to his deer camp in
Bracketville, Texas for a whitetail deer hunt
with a bullet action rifle TC compass. But first, we start the
show with our special guest from Do-All Outdoors,
Jonathan Hayes. He’ll chase whitetails
with the bestselling rifle from Thompson Center,
the TC Venture. – Yeah, so a couple
times a year, we come down to deer
camp to do some videos and some product shoots. And then depending on
what time of year it is, we’ll get to squeeze in a
turkey hunt or a deer hunt. So we flew in and got
our product shots done. Took us a good full day. Got it done early, and that
freed up some time for us to chase some whitetails. – Well, we’re gonna
hunt out of a stand that they’ve been
seeing a lot of deer at. One in particular,
there’s a deer there that I shot at last
year with a bow and just missed really bad. So we’re gonna get
after it this morning and hopefully, he’ll
still be there. It’s about 30 degrees,
20 mile an hour wind, so I don’t even know what
the wind chill factor is, i think it’s below 20. This is the coldest
I’ve ever been in Texas. (calm music) Where’d he come from?
– I don’t know, dude. That’s a shooter. – We saw about three or four
good bucks this morning. To be so windy, it
was pretty surprising to see that many bucks, but we didn’t get an
old, mature one come in. But we’re gonna pack up, it’s
about 9:15, head to the house, and then come back
out this afternoon, see what we can do. (calm music) – Look how much bigger our
deer is than the rest of them. – I know. (calm music) – Did you find him? – no, yes, yeah, I got him. (dramatic music) Whatever he gets me,
I’m gonna take it, okay. As soon as he turns around. Come on. (gunshot rings) (reloads gun) (chuckles) Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. That was nerve wracking. I cannot believe that. – Holy cow. – Last light. Man, that was nerve wracking, I’m shaking like
a leaf right now. I can’t control it. Got some good blood, there’s
where he dug in right there. There’s his back flipped. Oh, man. What a buck. Right in the shoulder, probably
took out both shoulders. Nice little 10. We worked hard for this one. Super cold yesterday. This morning, it was freezing. Came back this afternoon, the wind had died
down a little bit, about a 10 mile an hour wind. And this guy came in
right at last light. And it’s a good buck,
we’re real proud of him, we worked hard for this guy. Perfect ending. – Coming up, Danielle
Sanville from Thompson Center will put TC Compass to the test. Americana Outdoors

Americana Outdoors, presented by Garmin. Once again, Wade
Middleton gets a chance to welcome Thompson
Center’s Danielle Sanville to his deer camp for
a whitetail hunt. – Yeah, we’ve been fortunate
to have Danielle down a couple times in camp. And it’s always an
adventure, first off, it seems like we’ve
gotta move around a lot when Danielle comes in, which is fun for me, I love
to cover a lot of ground. But it’s always interesting because Danielle
is like a sponge, she’s always looking to learn
more about what’s going on and why we’re doing
certain things, and asking questions not
only about the wild game but about what we think
about the products at TC and how we use them. Because we really put
a lot of the TC rifles to the test here. I mean, when you look at our
country, it’s pretty harsh. I mean, everything we do,
we’re in rough country so it’s gonna get scratched
up, it’s gonna get dusty. We’re gonna have rain storms
while we’re out there. And we’re really excited
to get that data back because like I said, she
really wants that information and she wants to get out and
learn commercially from us about how we use it and
about what other hunters that come into camp
feel about their product because that type of
feedback is invaluable when it comes to
product development. Not only for tweaks for what
we might be shooting now, but you know, future products. – You know, this particular hunt is gonna be set up in probably
a little different conditions than we normally see
this time of the year. We’ve had a lot
of rain this fall. And actually, going all
the way back to the summer. We even had flash
flooding in this area, and it’s left Texas, especially
the area that we’re hunting, in the best shape that I’ve
seen it in well over a decade. Right now, it’s about as pretty
as you ever could imagine this part of Texas being. And what that means is the deer are kind of doing a lot
of different things. Their patterns aren’t
as predictable, and it’s requiring
a lot more scouting. We’re running more scouting
cameras than we have. I’m spending more time just
kind of running around, looking, trying to find the mature bucks. – So what I like about hunting is that you have the opportunity
to experience the world really wake up. You know, we got up really
early in the morning before the sun came up and tried a bunch of different
stands and ground blinds and you get to hear
the turkeys waking up, all sorts of different
birds waking up, and you get to see all
the different animals just coming awake, and it really does
lift your spirit and makes you really
appreciate nature a lot. So we went out in the morning and nature started
to come alive. And I’m looking
through my binoculars and it’s really still dark and I could start to
see some movement. And as the sun came up, there were a ton
of deer out there. There were a lot of doe. There were a lot of bucks, but just very immature bucks. Probably about maybe
one and a half, two, two and a half years old. Some of which had
some huge racks, huge. But their bodies
were really small. And these guys are great at aging the deer
on their property. They do deer maintenance, they really wanna make sure
that they’re only harvesting mature bucks so that they can get
their genetics to pass from deer to deer year to year. And some of these
bucks that we saw, two or three years from now,
they are gonna be monsters. So I’m hoping that I’m
invited to come back here and maybe one of the ones
that I was a little bit like, wow, those are huge, will be one of the
bucks that I’m hunting in a couple of years. – We saw a lot of deer, but I don’t think we saw a
deer over three years old. So a couple real nice
impressive nines, young, wide 10s,
some spikes in those, and we certainly got busted. – Yes, we did. – There was a lot of
blowing going on out there, it was pretty still
all the way around. We’re gonna, it’s
still fairly early, we’re gonna go check
some scouting cameras, kind of make a plan, eat
some of our angel’s breakfast and get ready for this evening. – Speaking of angel’s breakfast, we get lots of questions about
cooking wild game and fish so we put many recipes from
Bradley Smoker and videos from the kitchen of Cabela’s
pro staff Angel Middleton on our website. Go to americanaoutdoors.com
and click on recipes. You’ll find out how easy it is to prepare your
delicious wild game dish. Americana Outdoors
will be right back. American Outdoors

Outdoors presented by Garmin. We’re in Bracketville, Texas chasing after whitetails
with our special guest, Thompson Center’s
Danielle Sanville. (calm music) – Seeing a bunch of
different animals out there is really interesting because you get to watch how
they interact with each other. It was interesting to me to see the different
species of deer actually kind of
sparring with each other. But they were also kind of just
living in harmony together, which was really neat. So the gun I was using was the Thompson
Center Compass rifle. It’s a relatively
new gun to our line, it comes in 11 different
calibers from 204 Ruger all the way up to 300 Winmag. And it has a detachable
magazine, holds five in the mag and four if you have
a magnum caliber. In this hunt, I was
using a 30 odd six. And it just
functioned flawlessly. You know, nice, crisp trigger. And if I needed to have
more shots as a follow up, they were there. So that gives you a little
extra layer of comfort. – Finally come and try now in a bit to move
to the amphitheater and get near the water
and see what comes in. It’s only about 3:40,
I’m looking at some
scouting cameras. And Danielle has
called in the cows. (dramatic music) – First time in a manmade
blind with a cover. In the past, I’ve sat in some
kind of blinds made of brush. This had brush, but
it also had a roof, which made it really nice. It actually was
nice and convenient because you could move
a little bit more, you could make a
little bit more noise. We had some animals
come really close to us, I mean, 20, 30 yards
maybe, some of the doe. And they were coming
from all directions. From behind you, from the
side, from in front of you. And it was nice ’cause it
was super hot out that day. The sun was kind of coming down and we didn’t really feel any
of that inside that blind. You know, I saw a Sika
for the first time and we were out for whitetail. So it was great. And those exotics, you
don’t really get to see in a lot of different places. So Texas is great because they
brought them here years ago. And they’ve done very
well on the land. So the population of them is
getting higher and higher. So you see them more often than, I guess, what
you did in the past. And just my luck. – Got him, go ahead. (gunshot rings) (upbeat music) – That’s the first
Sika I’ve ever seen. – I’m sitting there trying
to move in in between brushes and I looked up and
that sucker was perfect. And it’s like I got it. I just zoomed out
and I said okay. We had to move
the camera around, the cameraman couldn’t see, there was a giant cactus
and bushes in the way and we were passing
the camera to me. – He’ll weigh 200 pounds. – See, there’s tracks. There’s tracks. – What you see? Congratulations. (laughs) – It didn’t take as
long as last time. – He was in the bushes there. – In the cactus. – Well, there’s your big,
big, Sika there, right there. – Wow, look at him. And he’s got a big body. – Yeah, this is a big body, this is a 200 pound
plus animal right here. I mean, you’re
looking at basically, looks kind of like a mini elk. – Yeah, it does, wow. – That’s a big one. – Great coat, beautiful color. – Yes, yeah. He’s gonna eat good too. This will be a unique one
for the dinner, y’all, having Smith and
Wesson, won’t it? – Yeah, it will. – Well, I’ll go get the viking. – All right. – Congrats.
– Thank you. – Danielle has one more
day at the deer camp. We’ll see if she can put
the TC Compass to good use. Americana Outdoors
presented by Garmin has been brought to you by Stealth Cam digital scouting
cameras, the game has changed. Hercules Outdoor Industries. And by 10 Point
Crossbow Technologies. Perfection lives here. – So it’s about
5:15 in the morning. We are gonna go out today and drop Wade off in the vikings
so he can do some scouting. He’s seen a lot of mature deer in different parts of the ranch. And we’re gonna go out
to a different tree stand that I haven’t been at yet. And hopefully, one
of those big deer walks out in front
of me this morning. So I’ve got my TC Compass
and we are ready to go. (calm rock music) (dramatic music) You ready? (gunshot rings) He’s down. (laughs) Wow. – She dropped him
right in his tracks. – He didn’t even move. I can see him, he
was right there. (laughs) Wow. Got here up, and
it’s still dark. We could hear them, but
we couldn’t see them. And we saw some axis, some
with horns, some without. Some in development. It’s stuff I’ve
never seen before. I mean, it was amazing. And then we saw two
really big 10 pointers, but they’re only like two
and half, three years old. And then this old guy came out and he was perfect for
me, so this is great. This is so great. (upbeat music) He’s still got
some velvet on him. Look at that. He’s so cool. Look at this. God, this guy, he’s
just beautiful. Look at this, velvet
is still on there. He’s got some good mass,
some character to him. And you know, we do
a game dinner at work and all the proceeds
go to a charity. And they’re gonna
appreciate him this year at that game dinner. We used my Thompson Center
Compass rifle in 30 odd six and he dropped instantly. So he was pretty easy to
find, I could see him, and we walked right up to
him and this is just amazing. What an opportunity. I’m just such a lucky person. – That’s the kind
I like to shoot. Big, old, and mature.
– Yeah. – Mass, that’s cool right there. That’s pretty unique, I don’t
know if I’ve ever seen two that go exactly back like that. – Very symmetrical. – Yeah, good deal.
– Yeah. – The compass speaks.
– It does. And yet again, you weren’t
in the stand with me. – I’m not allowed to be with
you when you kill whitetail. – We had seen probably
about 150 plus deer in the other hunts
before she got that one. But that one was an old bruiser and his teeth were worn down. And I know she’s happy with it and I’m even happier because I know that’s the
right deer that we shot. And one of those younger
guys is gonna be living to grace somebody’s
wall in the near future. – Watch any of our
