Good morning, Dani went for a run so I’ll close the roof tent alone, then we’ll drive to Chania and have another breakfast there, and enjoy another sunny day in Crete. It takes longer when you do it alone but it’s feasible. I’m sitting on the bonnet, yesterday we bought figs and newspapers and so I’m enjoying the morning sun till Dani comes back. Dani took a shower. We’re on the way to our neighbours in a motor home because they invited us for breakfast. Very nice of them. We had eggs and bread with butter and tea, that’s great and coffee and orange juice. And no wind and a view. Yes, I’ve never been in a motor home before and I’m so impressed. It’s warm and quiet and comfortable. (No no please stay with your Defender, that’s a lot more interesting!) Maybe later. Our place is quite near to the sea and we’ll spend the day on the beach. And then drive into town and have fish in the market hall. In the afternoon we’ll upload the video and write subtitles. And then it’s already dark. The couple we met has a stand-up paddle-board and we’ll spend the morning with the SUP and sunbathing and enjoying the sea. It’s already full, it’s unfair to film now! We’re at 1 ‘bar’ (14.5 psi) already! Have you seen fish? Very small fish yes. I thought that I could use the diving goggles to have a look underwater but the board is too high, I would most probably tilt if I did this. And where are we going now? The market hall, to eat some fish. Woohooo! ‘Let’s make a ACAB graffiti.’ ‘Yes, let’s think about something funny.’ ‘Yeah, write Keep calm and ACAB’ ‘Okay. Ah, is ‘keep’ with a C or a K?’ ‘Oh no.’ It’s really hot. A mixed fish plate. They’re making the road markings by hand. They’re using these slats and nails in the ground to make it straight. Here there are two parked cars and they simply paint around them. Here too, the paint beneath the cars. Three days later I’ve been there again and the gap where the tyre was is still there. Here we spent the last three hours, uploading one video, beginning the next one. It’s quite late, 9 pm, and we have to go to bed. We’ll go to the same place again. It’s a good place. Good morning, we got a breakfast at the bakery and are eating eat near the sea. The sun is shining and it’s so nice. And I prepared the backpack so we can do some work. So, the video is ready, I’m adding subtitles and Dani is reading. And so we’re enjoying the day. We have… 2000 subscribers. 2000 subscribers! We’re really happy about that, and to celebrate we went to a restaurant. As starter we have goat and sheep cheese from the region. So tasty. That’s goat-something with potatoes and Dani has a vegetable pie? I don’t know. A strudel. A vegetable strudel. Bon appétit. The goat was very tasty. It’s interesting that they don’t have it more often in the menu. It’s a bit cold in the evening, especially when there’s some wind. But the last few days have been so nice. This wall is as high as my knee and with a normal car you couldn’t open the door. And the Defender is very convenient now. I can open the door fully. Because it’s so high. Good morning, we’re still in Chania and a beach a bit south of here was recommended to us, near Matala, and I want to go to Matala too, but on the other hand it’s very convenient to be in the city because we can work very easily. So Dani would like to stay here and I would like to go to Matala. So we decided that Dani stays here and I’ll go alone for three days. We often find spider on the outside of our car and this time it caught a fly right before our eyes. On our car. Let’s see where I’ll go, safe journey, Karin. I’ll arrive at the Triopetra beach in the afternoon. Yesterday evening a neighbour – someone who lives near the parking – gave us a whole bag of oranges. Fresh from his garden, that’s so nice and they are SO tasty! And smell so strong. And he said ‘fresh from the garden, without pesticides’. That’s the Triopetra beach, Triopetra because of these rocks. The beach is really nice. But unfortunately the showers have no water. Moreover my phone charger broke so I’ll drive to Matala today and get a charger somewhere. I found a gas station that sells chargers. It’s charging. Great. Now I’m driving to the Matala beach and have a look if there’s anything still open. In Crete there are many ATMs from Euronet, that are not directly connected with a bank. Translated in 6 languages but only in use from April to October. There are so many tourists here. I wasn’t expecting that. It’s a really touristic place. I thought it was calmer. The beach is really nice, and there are many beautiful graffitis. Matala is known to be the hippie beach and there are these caves where hippies have lived. And maybe still live. And it’s really beautiful here. And there are people relaxing and playing guitar on the beach. It’s something completely different to travel alone. I’ve been approached way more often, I think that’s because when Dani is here we most often talk to each other and are a closed group. When you’re alone it’s not like that. They ask about the car and if I’m traveling alone and things like that. I think I want to proof to myself that I could manage this alone too. Normally we’re always two. And it’s clearly something very different but also nice. I’ll go for a walk now. It says ‘Open all Day!’ ‘Every Day!’ but it’s closed. The camping is very simple and very nice. There are hot showers. I washed my hair now and now I’m going to a restaurant for dinner. The same – 365 days, all day. But closed. Now in the evening many tavernas are closed but I found a really nice one. And I’m reading a bit and looking at the comments of the new video. I’m back in the car, it’s very comfortable. I think I’ll sleep fine. Good night. Good morning, I didn’t sleep that well, I think there were 20 mosquitos in the car that were humming constantly and waking me up every 5 minutes. Today I’ll go to the beach and walk around a bit and enjoy the day and it’s already so hot outside. I opened the doors on both sides but there’s just hot air coming in. She’s so cute and she’s got so many colours, and one says that a cat with three colours brings luck so this one brings luck and peace and love. It’s really nice now, the sun came out again and is shining on the cliff with the caves. Feet in the sand, cat on the legs, I’m happy. Last night wasn’t so nice and therefore tonight I’ll sleep in the tent. I opened the tent and I’ll get ready for bed. I’ll put the sleeping bag upstairs and it’s ready. Bart who has lived here for some years told me that when the grass starts to get green it’s Autumn. In summer it’s simply too hot for anything to grow. And everything is brown. It’s just past 6 pm and I’ll go to bed now.
