as we kick off season 2 As you guys know we took about a month off
in between season 1 and season 2 to collect video footage so we can bring
you guys some killer episodes. [Aulston] During this huntin’ season we’re
primarily going to focus on the hunts but we’re still going to
bring you management tips and how we’re setting up those hunts [Steve] Now, on this first hunt we’re
going to go with Aulston and we’re setting up on about 30 acres,
it’s more of an urban area there’s a lot of subdivisions and houses
around the deer are completely out of control on this piece of property there is a lot of
does there’s some nice bucks What we’re doing is we’re setting on this
ridge, trying to intersect them as they’re going down to the fields to feed
at night. Let’s see what happens. Here in Arkansas we started archery season
September 15th this year Aulston and I have been putting in a lot of time
in the stand. On this particular piece of property there’s a lot of immature trees. So the tree that
we had to put our stand in is like the grandmother of all oak trees The tree that me and Steve picked out only took
2 ratchet straps to get around it, but it provided a bunch of cover. [Steve whispering] Alright so I’ve got Aulston
behind the camera right now We’re going to flip flop it back and
forth between the camera work He’s got first dibs on a doe depending on what buck comes in
and we’re going to see who takes that. Acorns are dropping really good as you can
tell the wind is really howling today Supposed to calm down a little bit this evening So we’re hoping to capitalize on that.
Deer have been bedded down all day I’m pretty sure. So we’re hoping to catch them in the transition area. We might be out in the morning when it’s a little calmer and see if we can make some magic happen. But we will see what comes in tonight. [Steve] Well, we were losing camera light
really fast we both couldn’t line up on the deer at the same time. I
didn’t know if Aulston was going to be able to pull it off. We had a doe come back in and it looks like it might happen. [Aulston] Me and Steve have been in the stand a pretty
long while and it was starting to get dark on us. Right at the last second we had some does coming in
and we didn’t think they was gonna come all the way in we thought our chances were blown but one stepped out and gave me an opportunity and of course, I took it. [Steve whispering] Shoot her whenever you’re ready. Well, I thumped my doe and through all the excitement
e and Steve didn’t know it but there was another doe in bow range, so, me and Steve tried to swap all the
cameras and stuff and she was sitting there watching us I don’t know why she didn’t run. We got the cameras swapped and we couldn’t get it together in time and she
finally just blew out. Maybe next time me and Steve will get a double on film. We had a few does come in and they kind of spooked on us and one came around and we pulled off a shot at her. We just got
down out of the tree so we’re going to try and go recover her. [Aulston] See it?
[Steve] Yep. [Aulston] There she is!
[Steve] She didn’t go far did she? [Aulston] Well, we found her, she maybe ran about 10 yards, maybe.
[Steve] Yeah she didn’t make it far as you guys could tell in the video, we had a lot
of does underneath us We were scrambling in the stand, doing some
switching around and stuff, we were in a massive oak tree there. They were just filtering through trying
to hit these fields down in the bottom. After Aulston took his shot we heard her crash
she didn’t go very far and we had a big mature doe step back
out in front of us and so I tried to pick up the bow, I kind of rushed
it and knocked the arrow a little bit there and made a little bit of noise so she got out of there. We almost had a double
but this is definitely our first kill this season I’m pretty excited
[Aulston] Yeah me too
[Steve] about it so we have been hard at it this past couple of weeks we passed up on a couple of opportunities got a lot of footage on these does so we’re going to get back out maybe
tomorrow and see if we can make something else happen. So, some good doe
management tonight! Well, there we go. Sweet! [Aulston] On this second hunt we’re going out with Steve to the 30 acres
to try his luck. [Steve] Now the oak trees are producing a pretty
good mast crop even though we had the worst drought on record this year. If you can find the right acorn tree,
you’re going to find the deer. So, probably these next few episodes you
guys will see us in the woods a lot trying to intersect them deer. [Steve] We’re back out on that piece of property
where Aulston harvested his doe a few nights before. It’s in the morning this time and I’m the one
that’s going to be able to fling the first arrow. So, I’m hoping something comes up. We’re bringing in some new camera angles to our episodes
this year as we’re playing around with one of the GoPros we’re putting it down on the ground.
We can wirelessly turn it on. We’re trying to get some of those pass-through
shots to give you guys a different perspective like you are looking through a window and watching
our hunt right there with us. That creates some challenges for us because we’ve gotta know the deer well enough
where they’re going to come in and we can get them on the GoPro and hopefully
harvest them on the GoPro So, we had this doe come in, she worked
her way in real slow had a fawn appear out of nowhere, you could
tell they were in no way tied together there So, it was just a matter of a waiting game to see if
we can get her a clear shot and get her on the GoPro They’re moseying around and we’re just waiting
for that perfect shot [Steve whispering] You ready? Doe down! Well that shot dropped her right in her tracks,
it would have finished her off but we went ahead and put another shot on her just to make an ethical kill Alright, so we are out here, found her, obviously she wasn’t very far
she pretty much dropped where we shot her so uh… another successful morning and we’re just pleased with it. Had a lot of
does still come in after she came in, we decided to stick around the stand just to see if a buck would come in It’s one of those cold mornings they just like to move during that time, we’re going to be back out this evening and now we have big bucks on the agenda
so we will see if we can get one Aulston is dragging this one out, I drug
his out of here last time from about the same location, except mine only
went a step and yours went about ten steps So, well, we’ll get her out Yeah, we’ll make him have to work for this one It’s a little bit bigger [Aulston] Whatever! [Steve] This one?
[Aulston] No it aint! It’s the same size! [Steve] She’s a little bit bigger!
[Aulston] Oh yeah, because you shot it, it’s “a little bigger”! [Steve] She’s going to feel bigger when you’re
dragging her! Trust me, I about died last time. He’s already asked for help, he’s not getting help! [Aulston] Hey, you volunteered to drag it
[Steve] Good job! [Aulston] You volunteered to drag mine I’m not volunteering for crap Well, it’s still early season, Aulston
and I are putting in a lot of time in the stand We’re having a lot of fun which that’s all that
matters. We’re hoping to get some big bucks for you on film before too long We’ll just have to see what happens! [Aulston] Hope y’all guys enjoyed the first episode
