I feel like we get to interact with the community and the citizens a whole lot more when we’re on a bike versus being surrounded by four metal doors. I feel like people
approach us a little bit easier. Also, most of the time in the central business district, we get through traffic and get to respond to calls quickly cyclists have to obey all traffic laws
just as the driver of a motor vehicle does. If
there’s a bike lane you should be in the bike lane. If there’s not a bike lane available, you should be as close to the right shoulder on the road
as possible. On the front on the bike you have to
have a light that is visible — it has to be white — it has to be visible from at least 500 feet away. On the back you have to have at minimum a red reflector that is visible from between 50 and 300 feet away when in front of the upper beams of a motor vehicle. You can also have a a red light on the back. It has to be
visible from at least 500 feet away. If a bicycle hits a car, say if they hit a parked car they at least need to notify the owner
the vehicle. If they cannot find the owner of the vehicle, law enforcement needs to be contacted so we can help them find that. But yes, they do need to notify.
