This is it – the moment that we were preparing for. Finally we are leaving for South Africa from Khmelnytskyi. Things are packed. Now there are a couple of months of traveling ahead of us. Maybe, even 6 months. We are not certain, that is ahead of us. But we are going to share it with you. We were happy that it was finally the departure day. Happy, but very tired and still in a hurry. Because we still had to buy a lot on our way. We also packed everything on the road. We lacked time. At darkness we ended up in Zakarpattya region. We were driving the whole day, but didn’t reach far. Almost the border with Hungary. We decided to spend a night here. It is already past midnight. Let the first night of our trip be in Ukraine. Just crossed our first border in 40 minutes. From Ukraine to Hungary. We thought it would take longer – the car is big. But it turns out that border guards, probably, don’t want to, hassle us before such a long trip. Everything was easy, with respect, quick. So trip has started well. I am happy. Our path through the Europe we set to surely go via Bavaria. In Bavaria we have a few friends and an elderly couple of Siggi and
Peter is among them. I have met them one February night, after I have boarded a wrong train car. And turned up in icy Bavarian province. Siggi and Peter gave me a shelter then. And that’s how our friendship has started. They are very wise people. And of course we couldn’t not stop by them, and film a bit of video, to share their wisdom with you. At her 80, Siggi is so technologically advanced women, that she even asked us if we can store our files in the cloud. Siggi and Peter have found us anti-Malaria drugs, which we couldn’t find ourselves, and even refused to take money for them. Siggi also gifted us The Little Prince by Saint-Exupéry, as this is one of her favourite books. Friends are probably the biggest wealth, that fate gifts us. Yesterday we had to cross 4 countries with a deadline. Because we were rushing to Siggi and Peter, our, so called, German grandparents. And today is easy day. You can follow the truck slowly-slowly. Even slower. It is narrow! Very narrow! I’m scared! Then our path followed Switzerland and France. And in France was our first night camping. Our first morning in our car, on the second floor. We arrived at the campsite, And usual French hospitality: “It is late!” “OK, come! But make no noise!” We came quiet, as quiet as we could in our car, pulled in, parked. And here we are… swallen in the morning. I am a real camper now, switched to Crocks. French villages are beautiful. And food is without competition. We were happy to have a breakfast and dinner in France. We thought, should we also take an appetizer, or just the main dish. Look at this luxuty. We’re in France! Today… I mean yesterday, we slept near the Spanish border on a camping in France. At a town that looks like the ones we have at the Black Sea. In Ukraine, if you know Zatoka. Looks similar. But breakfasts are better: French croissants, eclairs, coffee. And now we leave for Spain. Staying at friends’ for the night. There will be… I don’t know what there will be. French cherries, gathered in the morning. It was raining. That’s why they’re wet. Mmmmm! But friends were waiting for us in Valencia, so we had to go. We changed french people to spanish. Lyric french looks to dramatic looks of spaniards. And behing us are spanish mountains, dramatic landscape and a new road! We are in Valencia, visiting friends. Friends have hosted us for a night. And bringing us into the city… City? Or what is it?
Dima: City of science and arts. City of science and arts in Valencia was designed by the same architect, who designed Oculus in New York That is a mall and a subway station where the Twin Towers used to be. And you can see the similarity. Beautyfull! And sunny. All is white. You need sunglasses. Slava: What are you holding?
Olena: Orchata. Something local, very similar to Western Ukrainian “kutya”. Tell us, what is the best of the best in Spain? Jamon, Paella? Sea, sun. There is sun waiting for us in Africa too. But jamon and paella we have to import disassembled.
Dima: Oh, by the way. Jamon. You don’t need to keep it in the fridge. Why vacuum? Just buy a leg. Ah, we thought to hang a jamon leg in the car. So it swings. Dima: Once we brought 7 legs of Jamon to Ukraine.
Slava: 7 legs? When we came to the supermarket to buy all that,
they were all surprised. Administrator came and asks: “Sorry, but why?” –
“Souvenirs” – “Souvenirs?” That is how myths are born that there is nothing to eat in Ukraine Olesya: Imagine, you in Ukraine come to market to buy 10 kg of pork lard and saying it’s a gift. For Spain! Slava: Amalia, do you want to go to Africa?
Amalia: Yes. Slava: You like Africa?
Amalia: Yes. Slava: And do you like the car?
Amalia: Yes. Slava: And what do you like best of all?
Amalia: Africa. Olesia: No, Slava is asking about the car.
What did you like the most about it? Amalia: a sofa. After Valencia we had a night on a campsite in spanish mountains. It was very beautiful. And besides, we could work on a car a bit. The advantage of a good camping comparing to wild camping is that there might be a restaurant where they serve… Good food. Yesterday we had a nice dinner and in the morning a spanish breakfast. That’s a tostada like this with jamon, for example. And coffee. And more – interesting change meetings. Yesterday we’ve met a couple from Britain, that moved to Spain and here nearby in the mountains grows cannabis. And making youtube videos about it. So that guys is a president of a local pot smokers association. Where else would have we met him? And I’m on the background… We could refill our water at the camping. We have a 100L tank, so that’s important. Going to a Spanish port Algeciras. I hope we manage to buy our ferry ticket today. And if we do, we’ll set off to Morocco in the morning. The day was hard. We got to the city at 8 PM. And we had to visit 3 stores before 10 PM and buy a lot of things. we were running in a hurry, the store was closing… But we still were buying something. Running away into practically closed doors from the shop, and we got tired. Just so you don’t think our life is so sweet it is… a little after midnight. We were driving to Algeciras for half a day, to the port city. And then rest of the time buying groceries, and everything else we need, visited 4 shops until 10 PM, when they were closing. Barely made it. Olena was still searching for butter and I was paying for things. We bought so much stuff, so we needed a lot of time to put it all together in the car. And tomorrow at 8 we have a ferry. Have to be at the port at 7. Stopped just at the parking lot, next to the shop. Closed roof. Blocked everything. And going to sleep. And in the morning Moroccan border is waiting for us. Very tired! Half past 6. Time to go to port. First african border is waiting for us. Yesterday evening we were a bit worries. In the morning a bit less. But we’ll see what what waits for us. We are docking into Africa. Supposed to be warm. But it is not. What waits for us in Africa? That was unknown. But we will tell you about it. So subscribe to our channel and tell your friends about our videos.
Until next episode!
